The Marantz IS301 wireless iPod dock is a high quality dock designed to give you the best of both worlds - let you watch and listen to your iPod contents through your hifi or home cinema system, whilst having the convenience and ease of use of having your iPod in the palm of your hand.
The IS301 actually consists of three parts: a compact handset that attaches directly to your iPod, a base station and a receiver unit.
The handset connects to your iPod's connector block and is compatible with all current models of iPod. The handset then transmits whatever music you select on your iPod over a high quality A2DP Bluetooth audio connection to the receiver. This means you can keep your iPod in your hand and use it in the way you would normally. The handset also has a built in USB socket, allowing you to connect and sync your iPod with your computer whilst it is docked, and it also controls the standby, volume and input selector of connected Marantz amplifiers and receivers.
When used in a wireless system the base station provides an easy way to charge your iPod, as well as a convenient place to keep it. When connected to the receiver using the (supplied) IS-LINK cables, the base station adds even greater flexibility to the system. When the handset is placed back into the base station, video output from the iPod becomes available, the iPod is charged up and control of the iPod is done from the included remote control. The base station also passes remote commands from other Marantz remote controls to the receiver, then on to the Marantz components - your whole system could be hidden away out of sight, and the remote controls would still work through the base station!
